Description:

Job Summary: Personal Support Workers (PSWs) are integral members of the healthcare team, providing compassionate and supportive care to individuals with physical and/or cognitive challenges. They assist clients in their homes, in retirement homes, long-term care facilities, and hospitals, helping them with their daily personal care and ensuring their comfort and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Personal Care: Assist clients with personal hygiene, including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
  2. Health Monitoring: Monitor and document the client’s physical and emotional well-being; report any significant changes to the supervising nurse or healthcare professional.
  3. Meal Preparation and Feeding Assistance: Prepare nutritious meals and assist clients who have difficulty feeding themselves.
  4. Medication Reminders: Provide reminders to clients to take their prescribed medications.
  5. Mobility Assistance: Assist with ambulation, transfers, and range of motion exercises as needed.
  6. Companionship: Provide companionship to clients, engaging in conversation, recreational activities, and social outings.
  7. Housekeeping: Perform light housekeeping duties, such as cleaning, laundry, and maintaining a safe living environment.
  8. Documentation: Accurately complete all required documentation, including client care plans and incident reports.
  9. Communication: Maintain effective communication with clients, families, and the healthcare team.
  10. Confidentiality: Respect the privacy and confidentiality of clients and their families.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a recognized Personal Support Worker program or equivalent.
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in a caregiving role is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Compassionate, patient, and attentive to clients’ needs.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

Additional Requirements:

  • Criminal background check.
  • Immunization and health screening as per current public health guidelines.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, nights, and weekends, as required.
